Hamilton East / Stoney Creek

Recommendation: Re-ELECT NDP MP WAYNE MARDSEN

Our general position is to back sitting MP's where the race is between the NDP and the Liberals. However, if you count yourself a supporter of the Liberal party's stand on shifting taxes from income to the emissions that cause global warming, you can safely vote on principle here.

If you do vote to support Mr Marsden's re-election, don't give him a free ride! Voters in Hamilton who are concerned about global warming should call the NDP to task over their populist position on gas prices and carbon pricing. Jack Layton and the NDP know that cheaper gasoline won't lead to lower emissions. Ask Mr Mardsen if he agrees.

For another perspective on this issue, read what former NDP environment critic Lynn McDonald had to say in the Toronto Star in July.

Sources used in this recommendation:

Please keep in mind our recommendations are based on a review of previous outcomes, election prediction sites and the commentary of pundits and constituents. Every riding is unique, and recommendations based on regional polling trends do not necessarily capture that. You are best situated to make the call on who to vote for. The most important thing you can do is talk to your friends and neighbours, assess the local race yourself, and make an informed decision as to who has the best chance of keeping the Conservative out of office. Work together!
